Applying rail tape for a sup

We'll guide you on how to protect your board, by applying rail tape

Rail taping a board is the best way to give it added protection from the paddle, saving the obvious scrapes and chips they can often get.  Bear in mind, this only works on hard boards and not inflatable paddleboards.

Quick tips on rail taping a sup

Rail taping a board is the best way to give it added protection from the paddle, saving the obvious scrapes and chips they can often get.

The tools you will need:

  • Squeegee
  • Soapy water in a squeeszy bottle
  • Rail tape from Rail Saver Pro

You’re going to need to be able to rest the board on it side in a clean work environment, with no floating dust or wind.

Water will drip down to the floor, so make sure you protect it if necessary.

Trim the ends of the tape, so they don’t have any sharp corners.

Now you can sit back and watch this video produced by Jimmy Lewis SUP, and see how the application of rail tape is made.

You can also check out video on How To Protect a SUP Paddle Blade. And don’t forget to rail tape your new boards before they  get whacked. Surf sups are most prone to being hit as you’re more aggressive when paddling these boards in waves.
