The Futures Fins – Downwind SUP fin has been designed from the ground up with downwinders in mind. If we look at the design of this fin it is quite unique due to its extra length and reduced horizontal profile. As you would imagine, the longer the fin the greater stability is created but the downside is increased drag.  Inversely the smallest version at only 11 inches long provides less stability but reduced drag therefore increasing speed. The reduced horizontal profile helps to control the pressures put on the fin as it accelerates down the swells therefore increasing control over the board. What you are looking for in a downwind fin is directional control whilst maintaining the ability to make controlled adjustments at speed that don’t de-stabilise the board.
