- Finding the best windsurfing school in West Sussex
For a total beginner trying to understand the prinicples of basic windsurfing, the wind, the kit andhow it all knits together, through to advanced sailing with people learning to gybe and jump, lessons will definitely make things clearer.
If we look at how someone learns the very basic windsurfing skills, we have some very useful tips and tricks that you can carry through to more advanced sailing, but this sort of thing isn’t learn through trial and error, so a good instructor will make sure you’re getting the best coaching.
A good instructor will not only show you good techniques and routines, but will be able to demonstrate and explain why and how they work compared to other ways that would definitely slow down your learning curve. Add to that the many ongoing lessons and homework you’ll get to carry on your training.
As a beginner, you really are a blank canvas, so everything thing you learn whilst sailing on the right windsurfing kit will massively speed things up for you.
Tips for finding a Windsurfing School, Lessons and Courses
If you google ‘windsurfing courses near me’, you will find centres that are local to you. Make sure to read their reviews and speak with them in detail to make sure they’re a good fit for you.
What beginners should look for in a windsurfing school
Any windsurfing school worth considering should use RYA trained instructors, but that said, there is no reason that they can’t be more advanced in their coaching methods.
The RYA or Royal Yachting Association tackes instructors from total beginner to more advanced coach and if the school is registered, it will be inspected to make sure kit and facilities are good enough.
The RYA Start course is the entry into windsurfing and cover many things, but we’ve taken it that much further to improve the methods, giving a sailor a quicker and more progressive start.
Looking for more advanced lessons
For those of you looking for more advanced windsurfing lessons, you will need to make sure the school has the kit, location and conditions, but you will need to flexible as british weather is always tricky. To be honest if you’re looking to improve into more advanced techniques, we would suggest looking for a our one to one sessions.
What’s the best time of year to start windsurfing
Most of our beginners like to sail in the summer, but we’d suggest you also consider the spring and autmn months as they bring more consistent winds.
Advanced sailors will do better in the autumn and winter when the winds are stronger, but you need to cope with the colder water and air temp.
