intermediate non-planing windsurfing

The Intermediate Non-planing Windsurfing lesson is where you go once, you’ve had some time on the basics and now need to improve those early techniques.

Taking the basic movements, now speeding them up and making them more refined, really helps to increase success rates, with moves like tacking and gybing.

The Intermediate Non-Planing phase in windsurfing can be quite broad, so you may start to head out in stronger winds, where you’ll need to be more dynamic and aggressive in  your actions, but utlimately those Core Skills are really tarting to make sense.

Repetition is a big part of this phase in your windsurfing journey and we’ll be drilling certain movements and focussing on balance, vision and counter balance.   You’ll be feeling the control increase and your actions and responses will being to make more sense.

Helpful Information & intermediate Lessons

Things start to get a bit more exciting as you are tuning those moves and getting more dynamic, but we still need to consider everything from conditions to kit.

when do intermediate non-planing lessons run?

As you develop your skills, we need to head out in stronger winds.

I’m not saying 20 mph or more, but  definitely 10-15mph, when you need to start to manage the rig and board more efficiently.

As we’re coastal based you’ll get those conditions all year round, so our lessons happen all year.

Also note that as winds get stronger, the water is often choppier which adds another little twist to the learning curve, but that’s how windsurfing works, it’s a forever learning curve.

What kit do we use as people start improving?

with a buoyancy aid for safety reasons, with a wetsuit as optional.

To be honest, the boards and sails don’t need to change that much at the intermediate non-planing phase, as it is all about accuracy and speeding up the movements.

We still use the Starboard boards and O’Shea sail, which are forgiving enough to help you make those moves.

do we sail in open water as an intermediate windsurfer?

As you’re still in that early learning phase, we’ll keep things harbour based at this point in Chichester Harbour – Prinsted.

As the winds get a bit stronger, the water does get choppier, but you’re ready to cope with that at this point.
